HELLO !! Thanks for considering coming to the art opening !!!!
I've been artist in residence at the Parkway Central Art Dept. this year and "Sound The Chimes" is the culminating event of my time there ! It captures not only the things I researched and worked on during my residency but also takes advantage of the expansiveness of the building itself. I'm excited !

EVENT DETAILS:
The opening begins at 12PM on AUGUST 9th in the lobby with a performance by Carrie DeCunzo on the libraries internal chime system. This is an extremely rare event in itself, potentially never done before !!
We will then proceed upstairs, where there will be 4 new drawings by Ana Woulfe plus relevant research materials on display in the hall, as well as original drawings by Fred Williams. There will also be Paper Quilts by Fred Williams and The Worlds Tallest Comic by Ana Woulfe hanging from the ceiling in the art department room.
At 2PM IN THE ART DEPARTMENT there will be a sound installation by Carrie DeCunzo that lasts from 30-45 minutes.
There will be snacks, tons of stuff to look at and good people everywhere ! An event to remember !!

ACCESSIBILITY INFO:
There is an accessible entrance in the back of the library at 20th and Wood that can take you directly to the lobby. We will have seats arranged in the lobby plus someone to help you find the elevator to make it up to the second floor if you need it.
Earplugs will be available for the sound installation, and there is plenty of seating in the art department itself.

ANA WOULFE

Ana Woulfe is a queer femme artist, printmaker, musician, transexuelle, smiley face, etc. etc. living on occupied Lenape land ("Philadelphia"). She has been thriving in the greater punk underground since she was a teenaged freak and makes a point of not prioritizing art as a method of accumulating capital - instead focusing on making things as a way to meet new people, build community and share ideas. She is committed to Decolonization and many other radical practices and her art often revolves around translating those concepts into accessible stories and images.
For a decade and a half, these translations have taken the form of critically acclaimed comics, essays, international tours or whatever other medium makes the most sense in the moment. These varied art forms are practiced relationally, seeking change in a small, thoughtful and intrinsically human manner as a way of upending the endless demands for scale and productivity made by the global capitalist system.

FRED WILLIAMS

Fred Williams is an artist based in North Philadelphia whose work primarily concerns r&b and hip hop culture interpreted through smudgy playful drawings and Fred’s ever inventive wordplay. Outfits horse fits who’s fit ? Don’t be surprised when all of a sudden you’re eating Luther Vandross pizza or see Mike Bivins stuffed into a hamper !
Over the past two decades Fred has appeared in exhibitions at The Magic Gardens, Tyler Contemporary and countless other venues around Philadelphia, including a solo show at Windowroom in 2019.
His script for Bad Boys 3 was never produced but is far superior to the 2020 theatrical release.

CARRIE DECUNZO

Carrie DeCunzo is a computer musician, pianist, vocalist, and video and installation artist. Her work deals with social and ecological ethics, and she incorporates visual language and theater into her compositional and performance practice. She has performed and released music under the monikers beautywork, Natural Pleasures, and Carrie Ford. She has released on Hold Tapes, No Rent Records, Love is the Law, Sprawl Tapes, American Damage, and KSX Solutions.
She received an MFA in Electronic Music and Recording Media from Mills College and studied geography and political ecology at the University of Vermont. She grew up in the the Adirondacks and currently lives in Philadelphia, PA where she teaches privately.
